Malachy Mitchell

Malachy Mitchell, 70 of West Chester, PA died Sunday August 7, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Bridget Catherine (Harte) Mitchell. Born April 8, 1946 in County Galway, Williamstown Ireland, he was the son of the late Maurice Mitchell and the late Catherine Cosgrove Mitchell. Malachy was a master carpenter with the Philadelphia Carpenters Union. Malachy moved to West Chester in 1986 and was formerly of Havertown. He was an avid sports fan. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. Malachy enjoyed his time at the gym where he swam and made many friends. He enjoyed his work and helped many a friend when they needed an extra hand. Malachy’s grandchildren were his everything and loved them so much. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Malachy Maurice Mitchell, Jr., Shawn Patrick Mitchell, Stephen Paul (Megan) Mitchell, grandchildren, Fallon Bridget Mitchell, Logan Gary Mitchell and Maddox Malachy Mitchell. Also survived by his sisters Mary McInerney, Anne Sheridan, Rose Varley, Eileen O’Shea, Kitty Purtill, Regina Mitchell, and brothers, Jerry Mitchell, Maurice Mitchell, and Kevin Mitchell, He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Relatives and Friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Rd West Chester, PA 19382; followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery West Chester PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
