Margaret Mickey Longaker

Margaret “Mickey” Longaker, formerly of West Chester Margaret “Mickey” Longaker died peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015 at her home at the Country House retirement community in Greenville, Delaware. Mickey was raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Upper Darby High School and from West Chester State Teacher’s College. She was a long-time resident of West Chester until the death of her husband in 2004. Before her retirement in 1986, Mickey taught kindergarten for many years at East Goshen Elementary School. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mickey was also an avid golfer and recreational skier who enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband and taking care of her home in West Chester. She was also passionately devoted to her dogs who were constant companions for many years. Mickey was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Downs Longaker, M.D., her parents, Edna Mae Swallow and Winfield Scott Swallow, and her sister, Edna Jean Fisher. She is survived by her daughter Holly Cockrell and son-in-law, Thomas Cockrell of Lancaster, Virginia; daughter Elizabeth Smith and partner Gordon Muir-Jones of West Chester; granddaughter Shannon Weist and friend Kyle Kohler of Williamsburg, Virginia; and grandson T.J. Picklo of West Chester. A private graveside service will be held on August 22 at Oaklands Cemetery in West Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Humane Society, 40 E. Main St. #364-I, Newark, DE 19711 which was one of Mickey’s favorite charities.
