Ruth Rambo Matthews

Ruth Rambo Matthews of Strasburg Ruth Rambo Matthews died on June 9, 2013 at her home in Strasburg, Pa., where she had lived for 67 years. She was born Feb. 24, 1926 in Berwyn, and graduated in 1943 from Tredyffrin/Easttown H.S. Ruth married her high school sweetheart, John (Jack) W. Matthews, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. They lived in Cocoa Beach, Fla., moving to Lancaster County following the war. Ruth is survived by six children, Julia E. (Lawrence) Marconi, of Cherry Hill, N.J., Rebecca A. (Steven) Britton, of Auckland, New Zealand, Alice D. Collins, of Strasburg, Susan C. (Pete) Fuller, of Hollywood, Fla., Bruce T. (Susan) Matthews, of Strasburg, John W. (Nancy) Matthews Jr., of Chester Springs; and was predeceased by her son, David E. Matthews. Ruth has 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ruth was the daughter of William E. and Ellen Sharpless Rambo of Berwyn. A sister, Priscilla (James) Pyle also survives her; while Ellen (Mac) McAdoo, predeceased her. Ruth was the co/owner of Matthews Brothers Greenhouses since 1946. Following Jack's death, Ruth enjoyed working at the Lancaster Office of Unemployment for 10 years until her retirement. Life celebration services are at 11 a.m. Sat. June 15, with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mauger Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355.
