Bunny Hackmeyer Obituary

Bunny Sutton Hackmeyer, 78, of Memphis, TN was never a morning person, yet she danced her way to Heaven on the morning of January 4, 2024. She overcame lung cancer surgery in 2014 and had been battling T-Cell Lymphoma since 2019. She was a tough cookie, but her heart and lungs gave way after being hospitalized with the flu.

Although her parents, Hoyt and Mildred Sutton, named her Kay Bryanne Sutton, she had been known as Bunny since her birth in Atlanta, GA on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945 (last year of the wheat penny).

She was proceeded in death by her son, Micheal Rhett Hackmeyer, and is survived by her two daughters, Tara Brooke Sparks (Brian) and Tanis Sutton Hackmeyer, and her three granddaughters, Tara Jett (Tim), Ashley Toney (Brandon) and Sydney Eshleman (Zach), 6 great-grandchildren, her dear cousin, "Bryannie", beloved friend and life partner, Camilla Withers, cat, D'Artagnan, and many lifelong friends for which she treasured.

Bunny had many talents and interests, and history held a special place in her heart. She traced our family's genealogy back to Charlemagne the old-fashioned way - before the internet - by visiting grave sites and libraries and reading obituaries, census roles and state archives. She was proud to serve as president of the UDC for the Memphis chapter 1994-1996 and Secretary for TN division.

Bunny was a witty, highly intelligent, imaginative writer and poet and held an amazing collection of knowledge and facts that rivaled today's computers. She absolutely loved Jeopardy, watched it every day and literally knew the question to every single answer. In her younger years, after retiring as a registered nurse, she loved bike riding, Ballroom dancing, traveling and collecting matchbooks from around the world. She was "Bunny of the Sea" in the Mermaid Club and made the best spaghetti we've ever eaten - ever!

There will be a private celebration of life in March.
