Geraldine B. Shackelford

1936 - 2024

Geraldine "Gerry" B. Shackelford, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, in Germantown, Tennessee. Born on December 23, 1936, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Gerry was the cherished only child of Charles and Bess Bowls. She was raised on the family farm in Toltec, Arkansas, where she developed a love for music, playing the piano at Toltec Baptist Church where her family were members.. Gerry earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and began her teaching career in Little Rock. She later married Robert L. Shackelford, and together they settled in Memphis, Tennessee. Gerry continued her teaching career at Towering Oaks Baptist School, Briarcrest Christian School, and Grahamwood Elementary, touching the lives of countless students with her dedication and passion for education. In 1972, Gerry and her family joined Second Baptist Church, where she actively served in the Joy Sunday School class. She was known for her warm spirit, love of travel, and the joy she found in spending time with family and friends.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Shackelford, and her parents, Charles and Bess Bowls. She is survived by her children, Robert Craig Shackelford (Dianna) and Mark A. Shackelford (Gini); her grandchildren, Zachary Shackelford (Megan), Carolina Shackelford, and Ian Shackelford; and her two great-grandchildren. Gerry's legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

The family invites friends to gather Thursday August 15, 2024 at 2:00 for funeral services at Memorial Park 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38119. Visitation will be held prior to services starting at 1:00pm.

The family suggests any memorial donations be made to Brinkley Heights Urban Academy.
