James Luther Madden, 79, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026. Jim was born on September 9, 1946. He and his sisters, Jean and Etta, were born and raised in London, Kentucky. Jim spent much of his adult life in Memphis, Tennessee. Following retirement, he and his wife, Gina Madden, volunteered with the National Park Service and lived in a motor coach, traveling between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve.

He was a devoted servant to his community, his church, and his country.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant during his service from 1965 to 1969. During his time in the Marines, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his commitment and honorable service.

Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to the Memphis Police Department, where he faithfully served the citizens of Memphis and retired with the rank of Captain. During his service, he was also appointed Police Department Chaplain for 10 years.
A man of deep faith, Jim was a member of Fisherville Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he also served as pastor at Hebron Baptist Church and Kirk Baptist Church, ministering to many and sharing his love of the Gospel with the communities he served.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to helping others, and his lifelong commitment to service. His leadership, compassion, and steady presence touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gina Madden; his son, Steven Madden (Rhonda); granddaughter, McKenzie Moffatt (Alex); grandson, Dalton Madden (Hannah); and great-grandson, Madden Moffatt.
