James Manning Obituary

JAMES A. MANNING Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather James A. Manning, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Lowell on November 7, 1950, he was the son of the late Marjorie (Murphy) Manning and James C. Manning. Jim was educated at St. Michael's School, Keith Academy, and Northeastern University, where he majored in marketing. He enjoyed a long career as Purchasing Manager with Simplex/Tyco International, while also working for many years alongside his father at the family business, Manning's Package Store. Above all, Jim's greatest joy was his family. He loved spending quality time with his wife and children, treasured Sunday dinners with his parents, and delighted in teaching his kids how to fish, ride bikes, play wiffle ball, ping pong, darts, and even dance to his favorite classic tunes in the basement. He loved letting his grandchildren play with his dog stuffies and classic model cars, while telling them he loved them. Jim was an avid sportsman, especially fond of tennis, softball, and golf. He cherished his annual fishing trips with friends, always returning with great stories. A lifelong New England sports fan, he especially loved the Patriots, attending many games with his four closest friends. At home, Jim took great pride in caring for his yard, landscaping, and home projects that made his property beautiful. He also had a special love for his Boston Terriers, spending countless hours throwing tennis balls for them by the pool. A devoted parishioner of St. Michael's Parish and a proud member of the Centralville community, Jim will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and dedication to those he loved. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (O'Donnell) Manning; his son, James P. Manning and his partner, Khunna Horn; his daughter, Michaela (Manning) Pigeon and her husband, Kenneth; and his two cherished grandchildren, Kaleb and Cameron Pigeon. He also leaves his brother, William Manning and his wife, Karen (O'Neill) Manning; his sister, Maura (Manning) Modeski and her late husband, Fred Modeski; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND JIM'S CALLING HOURS ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 8, 2025, FROM 5 PM UNTIL 8 PM AT THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL. JIM'S FUNERAL WILL BEGIN ON THURSDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 9, 2025 AT 9 AM FROM THE FUNERAL HOME, FOLLOWED BY HIS FUNERAL MASS AT 10 AM AT THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 EAST MERRIMACK STREET, LOWELL.
