Mary Susan Dowdy

Mary Susan Dowdy (née Quarles), age 79, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Born on September 25, 1946, in Fulton, Kentucky, Susan was the daughter of Joseph and Alice Quarles. After spending her childhood in Union City, she pursued her education at the Baptist Radiological School in Memphis. Susan was a quiet and confident woman whose strength and love radiated every day of her life. As a wife and mother, she was fiercely devoted and fully engaged in the lives of her family. A huge portion of her family legacy as the "mom who was always there" was built on years of PTA, Brownie, and Cub Scout meetings. Happily, Susan will certainly always be known for countless meals personally made and fondly provided by way of a near limitless kitchen table over the years. All of this will be greatly missed by the many she knew in life. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry Dowdy; her son, Michael Dowdy, and his wife, Jolanta; her daughter, Angela Ndiaye; and her daughter, Jennifer Dowdy. Susan is survived by her sisters, Catherine Markham and Elaine Knight, along with many nieces and nephews. Her legacy continues through them and the many lives she touched with grace. A memorial gathering will be held on October 29, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church (203 S White Station Road). The family requests that memorials, in lieu of flowers, be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
