Michael Brown Obituary

Michael (Mickey) Owen Brown, born to Leroy and Ethel on November 18, 1940, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 28, 2024, with family at his side.

A graduate of Christian Brothers high school and University of Memphis, Mickey made his mark as a golf champion and record setter including winning the junior crown at the Overton Park Open in 1967 at age 16, setting a course record 66 at the TPC Southwind on a cold rainy day in December 1991, and shooting multiple double-eagles and holes-in-one over the years. He was also a record-setter in his career as a realtor, achieving lifetime membership in the Multi-Million-Dollar Club, among many other accolades. Most importantly, Mickey was a protective big-brother, proud father and grandfather, adoring husband, loyal friend, mentor and generous spirit.

A salesman's salesman, Mickey never forgot a name or failed to wish someone happy birthday, and he never took "no" for an answer. He loved being around people and making them laugh. He always had a story to tell and a joke to crack. He always said there was no joke someone could start that he couldn't finish. As far as we know, no one ever stumped him.

One of his favorite traditions was Tuesday lunches with his "buddies" Barton, Jack, Loren, Sidney and Taylor. Their unwavering companionship and support meant the world to him, and to his family.

Despite his often "tough guy" exterior, Mickey had a soft spot for animals and anyone down on their luck, traits he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He had a sharp and creative mind and loved to cook, write, draw and work crosswords. He also loved to cut a rug with "Ms. Elizabeth."

Mickey did things his way to the very end. He made fast friends and made friends fast. His smile and love for life will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Adam and Eric Brown and five grandchildren, Zachary, Ariella, Elana, Naama, and Lilah; his wife, Elizabeth Brown, and stepdaughter, Misty Clark; his sister, Pat Okeon; his sister-in-law, Susan Edwards; and his ex-wife and mother of his children, Francine Brown.

Mickey donated his body to UT for medical research. Visit his memorial website (link below) for details on two services being held Sunday, August 18 and the ability to donate in his memory to charities he cared about. While on the website, the family would very much appreciate you taking a moment to go to the "Memories" section to share a favorite memory or story about Mickey.

Mickey was a loving and sharing man. I remember the many times he spent all day in our backyard over the barbecue pit - creating wonderful ribs. Then, he would come inside and relax for a well deserved respite. He will be missed by MANY!
