Norma Carole Coda Figiel
was born in Memphis, TN on September 26, 1933. Norma, 87, passed away after a short illness on September 13, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Norma attended Sacred Heart High School and Memphis State University (University of Memphis) and earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. She was president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. She was a teacher and guidance counselor for Sacred Heart High School and Catholic High School until her retirement at age 72. She was beloved by teachers and students alike. She was a communicant of St. Therese-Little Flower Catholic Church. Norma was an avid and accomplished bridge player often joining in at Lightman Bridge Center, or other ACBL locations. Her greatest joy was her family.
Norma is survived by her children: Victoria Figiel (Carole Cooper) of Avondale Estates, Georgia; Chester Figiel Jr. (Beth) of LaGrange, Georgia; Norma Lynn Holladay of Memphis, Tennessee; Jennifer Louth (Larry) of Memphis, Tennessee; and Julie Holland (Joseph) of Paris, Tennessee. She leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth McNally (Christopher), Josie Holland, Daniel Figiel, James Figiel, Natalie Figiel, and Sam Figiel, along with one great-grandson who was the apple of her eye, Liam McNally, and scores of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Chester Richard Figiel, Sr, her parents Dominic Andrew Coda, Sr., and Jennie Grillo Coda, and her siblings Anne Coda Drake, and Dominic Coda, Jr. all of Memphis, Tennessee.The family wishes to thank Tamara Barnes for her loving care of Norma in her last days. Visitation will begin Friday, September 17 at 1:00 pm, and precede the Liturgy of the Word at 1:30 pm at St. Therese-Little Flower Catholic Church, 1644 Jackson Avenue, followed by internment at Calvary Cemetery.
