Randall Whittaker Obituary

Randall Laverne Whittaker was born the son of Matthew and Laverne Whittaker on September 7th, 1950, in Manila, AR. He departed this life quickly and peacefully on April 19th, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deryl Lynne Oswalt Whittaker; children, Adam (Nicole) Whittaker; Aaron (Tara) Whittaker; three grandchildren Jake Whittaker; Aubrey Whittaker; and Shelby Whittaker. Randall defied the odds. He was on the move most of his childhood across Arkansas and Oklahoma but always had a home with his big brother, Sam. At 17 years old, Randall volunteered for the U.S. Army during the height of Vietnam. He spent time in the Panama Canal where he was a Jungle Expert and Fort Mead in Maryland, where he got to see The Doors live in Baltimore. Although chaotic early on, Randall soon found peace with Deri, the love of his life, and they would spend the next 54 years loving one another. Together they enjoyed their friends, traveling, their kids, grandkids, and their carrot cake! Randall spent 30 years as a Teamster, loyal to Local 667. Over those years he worked for Campbell 66, Jones Truck Lines, ABF, and Roadway. He worked the docks, was a City Driver and drove Over the Road. He loved to drive "the Big Truck" and you could always count on Randall to deliver. Randall had a country sensibility, a great sense of humor, an ability to put everyone at ease and a smile that welcomed all willing friends. He will be remembered by his family as Randall, Dad, Uncle Pete, and Taco Poppa, but, most affectionately, as Poppy. All of us that knew Randall will forever carry forward the lessons he taught us on how to live life with a full heart and humbly serve your family and the Lord. The Family invites friends to gather Friday May 2, 2025, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm for visitation with a service following at 2:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38119

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Randall. I just found out today. I had been his pest control guy for many years and it was a pleasure to get to know him and his wife. He was always kind to me and made sure I was taken care of. We had the best conversations and I enjoyed his company. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. We lost a great gentleman and friend but Heaven gained a great man.
