Robert Hugo Obituary

Robert C. "Bob" Hugo passed at the age of 95 on 10/12/25. His funeral will be held at St Michael's Catholic Church, 3863 Summer Avenue.

Monday, 10/20/25

Visitation for Public: 12 noon

Services with Mass: 1 pm

Burial: To be held in Forest Hill Cemetery on Whitten Rd immediately following church services.

Bob was born 10/1/1930 in Memphis to William Henry Hugo and Marion Collins Hugo. He started school at St. Theresa "Little Flower" Church School on Jackson Avenue when he was 4 years old, walking to school with his older sister, Rosemary Hugo. He continued in the Catholic school system and graduated from Christian Brothers (CBC).

After graduation, Bob joined the Air Force, completing Basic Training in Lackland, Texas and received Honorary Discharge in 1952.

After his military service, he married the love of his life, Frances "Louise" Wenzler. Together they raised 5 children. He was always proud to announce his 73 years of marriage and recall the birth dates of all his children.

He started Hugo Plumbing in June of 1964, which continues today. While raising his children in St James School/Church he was active in coaching, Boy Scouts and mentoring to so many. As they grew up Bob stayed close and even played adult league softball into his mid-sixties as a left handed "Southpaw" pitcher. You could always find him supporting his family in all their endeavors.

Known by many nicknames - "The Ace" was always loved, admired and respected. He is truly missed and will remain in our hearts forever as a wonderful loving Christian father.

He was preceded in death by his son, William T. "Bill"; his mother and father: William and Marion Hugo; siblings William "Bill, John Henry "Jack", Thomas, Rosemary, and Patricia Hugo Trotter.

He is survived by his wife "Frances Louise", and children Robert "Robbie" (Sallie), Shirley Marcum, Richard (Lynne), Barbara (Brian Strickland) along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I met Bob in the Spring of 1973 soon after I became a salesman for United Equipment Corp. The company sold trenchers and backhoes-exactly the equipment plumbers and electricians use. I worked the first 6 weeks calling on every plumber and electrician I could find and Bob Hugo Plumbing was my very FIRST CUSTOMER! This was a great sale for me, $11,003.60 in 1973. I remember the exact price. He was such a wonderful person and we became friends beyond just his being a customer. I called on him regularly for the years I worked in that job. He and Louise had me for meals at their house. He showed and bragged on his machine to a fellow plumbing company and they purchased the same machine from me on his recommendation! I have always remembered him and Louise.
