Robert Kenney Obituary

Robert Wayne (Bob) Kenney age 77, resident of Hickory Withe, Tennessee, and husband of Kathy Kenney for 38 years, departed this life on Saturday morning, February 11, 2023, at Methodist Germantown Hospital.

Bob was born July 1, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas where his father was stationed in the US Navy. Bob spent his childhood years in Ohio. He spent his early adult years in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he lived in California, Texas, and Ohio before settling down in Memphis, Tennessee where he met his wife, Kathy. He enjoyed careers in the avionics industry, trucking business, and financial services. He retired from Raymond James Financial Services as a financial advisor in 2015.

Bob's life was so full of things he loved. In addition to his family and church, he loved playing golf and riding or working on his motorcycles. He was a member and past president of both the Antique Motorcycle Club and the Hickory Withe Community Association.

Bob was a beloved member of Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church where he was a Ruling Elder. He loved serving the Lord and was very active in his church. He loved singing in the choir, serving as the treasurer for the church, teaching Sunday School, and studying the Bible.

During his journey with cancer over the past year, the Bible verse that gave him strength and that he frequently quoted was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

Bob leaves behind to cherish the wonderful memories of their life together, his wife Kathy Swain Kenney. He also leaves his daughter Irene Kenney, daughter Sherri (Rick) Morgan, and son Troy Kenney, grandsons Ethan and Ryan Kenney, and granddaughters Alex and Cecilia Morgan. He is also survived by his sisters Donna (Ralph) Hughes, Marilyn Smith, and Phillis (Bill) Jaccaud.

In addition, Bob was loved by his father-in-law Eddie Swain, sister-in-law Nancy (Gary) Toney, brother-in-law Mike (Amy) Swain and Chuck (Maryann) Swain, and his precious puppy Penelope Garcia. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Joy Swain and his parents Mary and Elba Kenney. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation for Bob will be held Friday, February 17 from 10 AM to noon at Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church, 2420 Donelson Drive in Eads, TN with the memorial service at noon. The graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave in Memphis, TN.

The family requests any memorials be sent to Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church, 2420 Donelson Drive in Eads, Tennessee, 38028.

Steve Matlock and I, Angela, adored Bob. He was like a brother to my husband. A huge part of our hearts are empty. Bob was the most loving, kind and generous man we knew. To know him was to love him. There was never a dull moment when he was around. We miss him very much but we know we will see again when we get to Heaven´s gate. Love you so much Bob

Uncle Bobby, or "GUB" Great Uncle Bob to our kids, was the "Cool Uncle" everyone wanted. Many great memories of my childhood with Uncle Bobby; driving across the country with Mom & Dad and Sister Kelli to visit him and my cousins in Half Moon Bay, California, Uncle Bobby letting my drive his Corvette when I graduated high school and generally just being the great guy we all knew him to be. We are lucky to have shared in his life and his memories will live on forever. Sending love and prayers for healing to Kathy, Irene, Sherri, Troy, his sister and my Mom Donna and brother in law Ralph (my Dad) and Aunts Marilyn and Phil, all my cousins, and all who knew and loved him.
Love you Uncle Bobby,
