Sara Watson Obituary

Sara Sanford Watson
"Sallie"

Sallie was born November 13, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Dr. Conley Hall and Mary Elizabeth Sanford. After the death of her parents, Sallie lived with her godparents, Gardner and Emily Boone.

Sallie graduated from Miss Hutchison's School. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alabama where she was a Tri-Delt.

After graduating, she married Keith Lane Watson and they had a son, Keith Lane Watson, Jr.

In her youth Sallie was active at Calvary Episcopal Church and the Young People's Service League in Memphis Tennessee. As an adult she was a loyal communicant of Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis where she served on the vestry, and in various outreach roles. Later in life she joined the congregation of St. Philip's Church in Frisco Texas, and remained a member of the church until her death. Her faith was the bedrock of her life.

Sallie loved people. As a young adult she served as a board member of the Junior League of Memphis, and president of The Memphis Book Club. She later went on to establish a long career as an interior designer in Memphis. She and other working women in Memphis started the Gailor Guild which met in the evening and sponsored "Soup Sunday", the day of the Super Bowl. She was also a lifelong bridge player who immensely enjoyed a game that required the company and cooperation of others.

The last decade of her life she lived in Frisco and Plano Texas. Despite her many health challenges during this time, she continued to live determined to find and experience joy in the presence of others. She lived until the end with grace, humility, and in consideration of others.

She is preceded in death by her younger brother, Joseph Sledge Sanford. She is survived by her son Lane and by her extended family: Sean, Keith, Joel, Karen, Jason, & Roxy Watson; Sarah and Brian Barnard; Emily "Wink" Ruch, Dr. Emily "Boo" Ruch, and Bob and Lisa Ruch Jr; Rondi & Mark Lauterbach; Connie & Jim Coleman; Robin Boone Smith, and Allison Boone Temple; Adrienne Davis.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Holy Communion Episcopal Church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to St. Philip's Church, 6400 Stonebrook Parkway, Frisco, Texas, or to The Church of the Holy Communion, 4645 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, Tennessee.

My Aunt Sallie was a very special person who always radiated joy! Despite all of her physical challenges she allowed her faith in Christ to lead her boldly into each and every daily adventure... and she NEVER complained. Sallie was creative, stylish, smart, gracious, loving and FUN! I loved her dearly and will keep her memory in my heart.

I am sorry to learn of Sallie´s passing. I had not seen her for many years, but have fond memories of high school years.

I knew Sally from St. Philip´s Episcopal Church the last several years. Her great smile to me, her graceful and put together presence was consistent and she always had knowledge to share during our women´s Bible Study! I could tell she was very content in our Lord. She will be missed. May God give her family and friends peace and joy.

Aunt Sallie was a gifted interior decorator and a gracious woman of faith. I (Rondi) looked up to her, not simply because of her elegant height, but because of the way she persevered through many trials and ended her uphill race still trusting in her Lord and Savior. Mark and I are both thrilled to know she is in Jesus' presence, and can't wait to see her in her resurrection body someday. Her artistic eye will surely be delighted by the glories of the new heavens and earth!

Sallie was my aunt on my mothers side of the family. She happened to be one of my favorite relatives because of her positive personality. She was always fun and upbeat.

She battled through some tough medical challenges late in life without complaining. I know she adored her son Lane and she will be missed by a lot of friends and family.

We hope to have a memorial service for her in Memphis at the Church of the Holy Communion (Episcopal) soon.
