Wendy Holdsworth Obituary

Our beloved Wendy Lynn Holdsworth, 54, passed away unexpectedly early on the morning of Friday, April 26th, 2024. Wendy was at the heart of our home and family. She is survived by her parents Biddie and Jim Alford and her only daughter Holland Holdsworth (age 17). Wendy was born on March 3rd, 1970 to Jim and Biddie in Ruston, Louisiana. In the early years of her life Wendy and her family moved place to place for Jim's career in the United States Air Force. Their first permanent residence as a family was in Texas and from there they went on to live in Georgia, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Alabama, and to California where Wendy attended Vacaville High School. After graduating from Vacaville High School in 1988 she went on to study Psychology at the University of Texas at Arlington. After graduating with her bachelors of science in Psychology in 1992 she went on to pursue a masters in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington where she then graduated as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1995. She then kick started her career in Memphis, Tennessee where she was a Social Worker and counselor at Youth Villages. From there she began working for the Shelby County School System in the greater Millington area as a social worker. She then had her daughter in January of 2007. After a few years of being a full time mom she then started her private psychology practice from the ground up in 2011. During this period she specialized in treating PTSD victims therefore she was a vital resource for helping many veterans and first responders in the Memphis area. Along with specializing in PTSD she continued her education and obtained certifications in the new field of psychotherapy known as EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) a psycho-therapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. During her twelve years of commitment and caring for her patients she was also heavily involved in serving her church, Covenant United Methodist Church, in Cordova. She became a leader in a wonderful church family. She served on multiple church committees in various capacities. When not working she could be found at her family lake house with her daughter, fishing and watching the beautiful sunset. Wendy was a vibrant light in her community and to all that she served throughout the years. Although her passing was sudden, we celebrate a life well lived and an everlasting personality of utter kindness and peace that will never be forgotten.
