William Moor Obituary
William Ralph Moor, 92, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at The King's Daughters and Sons Home, In Bartlett, TN. Born on January 5, 1933, Bill was the 6th of 7 children born to Alice Mae and Isaac Price Moor. Billy, as he was affectionately known in his younger years, was born in Keeling, TN, eventually moving to Memphis, TN. Bill helped on the farm, played basketball, was an Eagle Scout, and was in the ROTC program at Southside High School, in Memphis. He graduated with the class of 1951, and also completed classes at Memphis State University and Georgia Tech.
Bill went into military service at a young age, in the United States Air Force. He started as a truck driver, and quickly moved up the ranks serving at Shaw Air Force Base, in South Carolina; Maxwell AFB, in Alabama; and Dobbins AFB, in Georgia. His last appointment was at The Pentagon, as a Lieutenant Colonel, in Intelligence. Bill served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Bill was first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian was very important to him, and he was a long-time member of First Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA, and Leawood Baptist Church, Memphis, TN.
Lt. Colonel Bill Moor served in the military for 29 years, and also worked at State Farm Insurance, Coca-Cola, Haines Criss-Cross Directory, and with his brother, Richard Moor, at R. L. Moor Railroad Construction Company. Bill served as commander of the American Legion, Post 156, in Atlanta, Georgia.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Allie Moor; his daughter, Andrea Moor Tobin; his son-in-law, Steve Tobin; his son, Buddy Moor; his grand-daughter, Hannah Tobin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Bill is pre-deceased by his mother, Alice, his father, Price, four brothers, Isaac Lowery Moor, Charles Lafayette Moor, Richard Lee Moor, Gene Maurice Moor; and two sisters, Helen Kathleen Sitzes and JoAnn Estelle Peek.
Bill was very proud of his two children: Andrea, whom he shared with his first spouse, Barbara; and Buddy, whom he shared with his second spouse, Connie. He was very supportive of his children's musical endeavors.
A Christian, a Patriot, a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, a Son, a Brother, a Cousin, a Nephew, an Uncle, and an Great-Uncle were all important roles to Bill.
Bill enjoyed going to church, reading the Bible each evening, and standing up for what was righteous. His hobbies included playing 'Sequence', talking with friends, and giving to others. He enjoyed playing softball, working on cars, going to Veterans' events and reunions, attending family and high school reunions, getting together with family, watching baseball (especially the 'Atlanta Braves'), watching basketball, and watching 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'The Price is Right.'
Bill met a wonderful lady, Allie, at a Square Dancing group, in 1992. They were married on April 24, 1993. They enjoyed church together, fellowship with other members, and traveling together. He and Allie had a tremendous Tennessee garden, full of delightful vegetables, and the best tomatoes, which they shared with family, neighbors, and church friends. Allie's great gift of cooking was a delight for all who visited, but especially enjoyed by Bill, at dinnertime. When Bill's health declined, Allie was steadfast in her care for him. Bill's family will forever be grateful to Allie, for her unconditional love!
We thank the fine medical staff at Methodist North Hospital; the Veteran's Administration Hospital; The King's Daughters and Sons Home; and Methodist Hospice, all in Memphis, TN, for their unwavering commitment to their patients. Dr. Slade and Dr. Weinstein have been amazing. Bill's niece, Sharron, an accomplished nurse, was very close to his care, and helped with medical advice, through the years. Thank you!
