Wooldridge Davis Obituary

Wooldridge Wells "Bubba" Davis, passed away after a brief illness on January 20, 2025, ten days after his 91st birthday. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 10, 1934, he lived a life full of many accomplishments and proud moments. He was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy at the University of the South in 1956 with a Bachelor of Art with a Major in History. During his time at Sewanee, he served as a proud member of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity, sharing this legacy with his brother. Eager to be a continuous learner, he went on to graduate from the University of Memphis with a master's in education in1963. He began his fulfilling career at the Board of Education in 1960. Over the next 34 years, he served in many roles including teacher and coach at Georgian Hills Junior High School, Assistant Principal at Colonial Junior High School, and a Director Division of Attendance and Guidance of the Memphis City Schools. In addition to his extensive service in the education system, Bubba was also a proud member of the US Navy for 25 years. He was a Commanding Officer SD 6-84. He spent nearly fifty years as a pilot and flight instructor, teaching CFI and CFII in Olive Branch and General DeWitt Spain airports and surrounding areas. He found solace in friendship with God and was an active member of Second Baptist Church since 1967. He spent much of his free time serving as a Deacon and representative on many church committees. He was most proud of his time as their Sunday School Department Director, where he combined his love for the education system with his love of God. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Young Davis; mother, Willie Wells Davis; brother, Clifford Young Davis, Jr; sister, Dorothy Mae Walden; and, nephew, Clifford Young Davis, III. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn Davis; daughter, Cindy Frazier (Butch); granddaughter, Katie Maier (Simon); grandson, Hank Conditt; and, great-granddaughter, Penelope Maier. Contributions in lieu of flowers in Mr. Davis's memory may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
