Betty Sharp Weir

Betty Sharp Weir, 89, of Athens passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at NHC of Athens. She was a native of LaFollette, a longtime resident of McMinn County and was the daughter of the late Jess and Columbia Heatherly Sharp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Weir; and brother, Dr. Vance Sharp. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a former member of the Luncheon Pilot Club. She was associated with Social Security Administration, retiring after 23 years, and had also been associated with First National Bank and Citizens National Bank of Athens. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dauna and Dr. Richard Sharpe of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Becky Weir of Farragut; granddaughters, Allison Sullivan and husband, Hunter, Stephanie Weir and husband, Andy Yong, and Rebecca Weir; grandson, Andrew Richard Sharpe and wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Maddie Sullivan, Ian Sharpe, Margaret Sharpe, Luke Sullivan and Reid Sharpe; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, at Cedar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Bill Henard officiating. There will be no visitation.
