Frances Ozelle Creasman Ricks, 87, of Athens passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens. She was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, a daughter of the late Rev. Jesse Washington and Mary Ollie Womac Creasman, and was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eugene Ricks; daughters, Amy Lynn Ricks and Ruth Ellen Ricks; sisters, Lucille Strasser, Mary Opal Ricardson, Jina Wood and Louise Land; brothers, Capt. Jess Curtis Creasman, Dedrick Creasman, Malcolm Creasman, Cecil Creasman, the Rev. Oran Creasman, the Rev. Hershel Creasman and the Rev. Carl Creasman. She retired from Athens Utilities after 30 years of service. She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and Ladies Trio and served in many ways at the church. She was a member of Professional Secretaries of America, a founding member of Tri-County Center, having served on its board, and was involved with the March of Dimes. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Darren Eugene and Angie Chambers Ricks of Athens; two grandchildren, Rachel Lauren (Colton) Brown of Athens, and David Alexander (Kirby) Ricks; four great-grandchildren, Sylar Freeman, Wyatt Brown, Evie Nann Ricks and Madelyn Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Dannel officiating. Interment will follow in Eastanallee Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Ricks, Colton Brown, Joe Knox, Greg Hayes, Doug Gentry and Debo Toomey. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-County Center or North Athens Baptist Church.
