Herbert Summers Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafe and Eva Summers; his brothers, John and Mac, his sister, Mary Hanks, an infant sister, Shelby and his daughter, Brenda Wells. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Evelyn; three grandchildren; Tracy (Marvin) Mitchell of Trenton, Ohio, Michael (Stacy) Reese of Westerville, Ohio and Matt (Elanda) Jackson of Roanoke, Va. He also has several great grandchildren. He has three step-children: Curtis (Melinda) Horn of Soddy Daisy, Tn; Dawn (Dave) Brill of Jensen Beach, Fl and Heather (Wayne) Olson of Winter Haven, Fl. He has five step-grandchildren as well as several step great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild.
Herb was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was well-known in the Camden community, having attended Camden High school, been active in softball for several years as well as working in the area for many years at Versco and then continued working for Bill Brower at Brower-Pease until his retirement in 1993.
Visitation will be 12-1 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Fairmont Cemetery, Camden, Ohio.
Pete Mullins and Greg Jackson will conduct the services. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Genesis Baptist Church, P.O. Box 661, Athens, Tn 37371 or the First Southern Baptist Church, 35 N Liberty St., Camden, Ohio 45311.
