Mark Anthony Hicks, 62, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Feb. 5, 2022. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, and his loss is felt by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, the Rev. Charles and Ethleen Hicks; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Gale and Glenn Moses and Charleen and Woodrow "Sonny" Thrasher. Mark was born in Athens on Sept. 18, 1959. He was a member of Athens Free Saints True Holiness Church, where he played guitar and sang. Mark had a deep love for the Lord and served him his entire life. Mark loved to laugh, loved playing pranks on people and teasing them. He loved the outdoors and always had animals - chickens, dogs, horses. He loved deer hunting and shooting guns, and was a cowboy at heart, riding horses from the time he was little. But, most of all, he loved being a father to his sons and spending time with them. Mark leaves behind two sons, Mark Anthony II and Caleb Daniel Hicks; their mother, Sandra; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Joan Hicks and Bill and Janie Hicks; his sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Harley Moses; his brother, Doug Hicks; his step-granddaughter, Kayla McMinn; and his nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Athens Free Saints True Holiness Church with the Rev. Bill Hicks and the Rev. Don Julian officiating. Interment will follow in the Athens Free Saints True Holiness Church Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday. If you cannot attend the funeral service or visitation, sign the online guest registry at www.zieglerfuneralhome.com Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens has been entrusted with the care of Mark Anthony Hicks.
