Alfred EASTMAN Obituary
He was a retired minister in the VA United Methodist Conference with over 30 years of service. Graduate from Newport News High School 1942 and Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School 1948. Honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He started Bethany United Methodist Church from his home in Hampton, Va., prior to earning a B.A. from Randolph Macon College 1958, and B.D. from Drew University Seminary 1961. He served in the United Methodist Churches as pastor, Poughquag UMC, Poughquag, N.Y., Christ UMC, Newport News, Va., Kilmarnock UMC, Kilmarnock, Va., Memorial UMC, Appomattox, Va., Franconia UMC, Alexandria, Va., and St. Stephens UMC, Burke, Va. He served as District Superintendent on the Harrisonburg and Rappahannock VA Districts.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Barber; granddaughters, Robin Eastman, Amy Lopez, and Deborah Nadeau; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Lopez, Madelyn Lopez, Alexis Nadeau, and Parker Nadeau.
Visitation will be Monday, June 21, 2010. from 6 to 8 p.m., at Demaine Funeral Home Springfield. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at St. Stephens UMC, 9203 Braddock Rd., Burke, VA 22015. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, Va. We enjoyed knowing Rev Eastman during his time as our Pastor at St. Stephen's UMC. We appreciated the fact that he talked to us during his sermons rather than preaching "at us"!! Our children, Sandra and John were teenagers during his tenure at St. Stephen's. They remember him fondly. He once told us from the pulpit that he had to finish his sermon quickly, because someone had given him tickets to a ballgame which was to be played shortly after church!! We give our deepest condolences to his family. Cherish the wonderful memories and good times you had with him.

Rev. Eastman was a wonderful pastor for us at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church. One of his most memorable sermons was about "The Music Box." We miss him, but know he's gone on to be with his wife and their son, Phillip.
