Alice Magann Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Alice Bryant Magann, 96, had lived a full, wonderful life when on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, God called her from this earth to begin her eternal life in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde, who is there to welcome her, along with many other loved ones. Alice was born in Nelson County, Va. and grew up in Tye River. She and Clyde moved around Virginia after they married due to his job with the highway department. They settled in Newport News in 1941 when he was employed by the Shipyard. She is survived by her twin daughters,Martha Keesee and husband Tom of Natchitoches, La. and Newport News, Va. and Mary Peters and husband Eugene of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren, Jill Pinner, Sherry Castellow and husband Mike, David Pine and wife Heather, Mary Ellen Welch and husband Mike. Her great-grandchildren are Elizabeth Driggers and husband Michael, Megann, Anna, and Michael Welch, and Elora Pine. Her many nieces and nephews will truly miss their "Aunt Alice." Alice loved flowers, sewing, cooking, and making handcrafted items, especially at Christmas. She was a Christian and a faithful member of Orcutt Baptist Church for 67 years, and she lovingly cared for children in the nursery for 50 of those years. She loved her church. It's worship services, fellowship, and special music presentations were such a blessing to her. Alice will also be greatly missed by a host of friends and neighbors. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her absence from our lives will not be forever, because, one by one, we will be reunited with her in that Heavenly place God has prepared for His children. We appreciate the loving care she received during her brief illness. Services will be conducted at Orcutt Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2013, with interment at Peninsula Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, June 21 at Peninsula Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Orcutt Baptist Church, 653 Baxter Lane, Newport News, VA, 23602. A gentle soul has winged its way to Heaven up above, And though we're sad, she left us with a legacy of love.

Remembering the good times playing at the home of Alice. The. treats I got while playing with Mary and Martha in their playhouse built by Clyde. As I grew up I realized even more what a special person Alice was. So lucky to have known such an angel. Mary and Martha are so blessed to have had Alice as their Mom.

I remember your Mother well. She loved and cared for both of my children in the nursery. What a wonderful christian lady, who had a sweet and gentle spirit.

David and I loved visiting with Clyde and Alice. We loved hearing them talk about their Lord, "old" Orcutt, the places where they had grown up, and most lovingly, their daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Their home was always a place of welcome and love. Alice could make a "mean"chocolate pie! Our Video Tape Team LOVED visiting with Alice and Clyde as they shared Orcutt's weekly "service" by video. Alice would "sing" along with the congregation and she ALWAYS sent her tithe faithfully although she could no longer attended the services. After Clyde died, Alice longed to be united with her beloved Clyde....and now.....two hearts are united forever. Thank you, Jesus, for making a way!

Magann Family, Praise the Lord, your Mother is home and I know Heaven is rejoicing for such a special lady to join them. As the days and weeks pass, may you all feel the love and comfort of friends. What wonderful memories you all will have. You are in my prayers.

I can remember as a child being held in the arms of Alice Magann while in the nursery department. She has the softest checks and was always comforting. I will miss her sweet smile and precious presence as she sat on the back row in church. Heaven has truly received another precious angel and I know that Clyde welcomed her as much as she was excited to see him. The earth will not be the same without her and heaven is a better place because of her. We will all miss you, Mrs. Magann
