Bennie Barnett Obituary
Bennie graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree in June 1951. He served in the United States Army during World War II in 1945-46 and during the Korean War in 1951-53.
Bennie met his sweetheart while attending First Baptist Church in Newport News. Elizabeth became his wife in April 1958. Bennie retired from Advex Corporation after 23 years of service; he was President of Advex from 1986 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member and deacon of North Riverside Baptist Church and a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church at the time of passing.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and five sisters and by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Edmonds Barnett. He leaves two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Barnett of Newport News and Elizabeth Barnett Hunt (Tony) of Memphis, Tennessee, and three grandsons, Trip, A.J., and Will, also of Memphis.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. with interment following at Peninsula Memorial Park. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Bennie was a great person that took me under his wing and I will forever remember his work ethic. We went on several trips to various companies with our wives in tow. Great memories my wife Helen and Elizabeth. We also sealed many contracts while enjoying our trips.

Sending comfort to the family of Mr. Barnett. I worked at Advex while he was on the board. Mr. Barnett was alwyas very nice. He will be missed by many people.

We were neighbors of Bennie & Elizabeth from 2005-2015. We'll never forget the delicious "welcome to the neighborhood" blueberry muffins or bag of Christmas treats - baked by Miss Elizabeth, delivered by Bennie. And Bennie taught us, it's a lot easier to spread mulch with a pitch fork than a shovel! Wise and generous, a devoted husband and Godly man. Thankful we were able to know them both. May God comfort the family and in time, turn sadness into sweet memories.
