Betty Ann Cooke Jennings

1926 - 2022

Betty Ann Cook Jennings, age 96 of Gloucester, died at her home Friday, October 7, 2022. She was born on September 3, 1926, in Philadelphia to the late James C. and Bertin Hughes Cook. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, received her BA degree from Virginia Union University, Richmond and she did her graduate work at Bank Street Graduate School of Education, in New York. Betty married Eugene Jennings on February 10, 1973. Following 30 years of service, she retired from the City of New York, Department of Social Services. Shortly after her retirement, she began teaching in the Elementary Schools in Long Branch, NJ, and Harbour School in Eastern NJ. She loved her work and found teaching a real challenge; dedicated and never seemed to become tired as long as she was helping someone. Betty was baptized at the age of 10, she enjoyed going to church with her father James Cook at First Morning Star Baptist Church in Hayes and served faithfully for many years at St. Marks United Methodist Church. During her career, and after retirement Betty remained health conscience and liked to take walks, or as she did while working visit the gym. Betty had one step-son, Eugene Jr. who was married to Michelle Jennings who preceded her in death. They were such a delight in her life and she loved them as her own. She was devoted to them and cherished them both as well as her husband Eugene of many loving and long years. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm at Hogg Funeral Home. A graveside service in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022, officiated by Pastor Larry J. Arrington.
