BRYAN ALTMAN Obituary

Bryan Dean Altman, 83, of Newport News, VA, passed away on August 6, 2023. Bryan was born and resided in Vineland, NJ. Until the age of 15, the family moved to Atlantic City, NJ. He was the son of Stanley Jess Altman and Jeannette Reba Altman (deceased). Bryan married Maxine "Bunnie" Altman, in 1960. Bryan graduated from Rutgers University in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 1959 - June 1966 (Electronics Technician). Upon his discharge from the Navy he joined the U.S. Army Signal School, Ft Monmouth, NJ 1966 (Instructor). In the 1960's he and 15 couples ran a community bingo which profits built Congregation Brothers of Israel in Elberon, NJ, as members of Orthodox synagogue in Long Branch, NJ. He was a member of Rodef Sholom Temple since 1977. From 1973-1974 he was the President of the Ft Monmouth Signal School Professional Chapter of NJ of Education Association. He transferred with the Signal School to Ft Gordon GA. He orchestrated the move of Project ABACUS from Ft Monmouth to Ft Gordon, GA. He was the Past President of the Denbigh Lions Club; he organized the Denbigh Parade and established a camp for diabetic children. In 1983 he accepted a position at CATC in Vilseck Germany as Deputy Director of Plans and Training. Bryan volunteered in the community in many capacities. He returned to the U.S. to his previous position of Instruction Specialist. Bryan retired in July 1958.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Altman "Bunnie"; his sons, Scott Jess and, Philip David (Lauri) and his daughter, Renee' Ida Fraley (Allen James) along with grandchildren, Dana Fraley, Jess Collins and Sydney and brothers, Myron Stuart "Stu" and Stephen Earl "Steve"; his many loving nieces and nephews, Janice Burg-Levi (Ralph), Charles Burg "Chuck", Helene Beck (Larry), Sander Jess, Stacey Lyn Heck (David), Paula Rothenberg, Ben Jess (Mary Caroline) Rachel Dawn Podbielski (Mike); cousins, Barbara Morris (Ed), Celia Zahler (Nelson), Jeffrey Blumenstein (Silvia), and Ronald Rudich (Patty) as well as their descendants. Bryan was predeceased by his younger brother, Marc Ira (Mona Altman), In-Laws, Jack/Audrey Burg and Kay Altman as well as William Hoffman "Bill", and cousin, Janet (Al) Blumenstein.

Donations in his memory can be made to Diabetic Research and Vascular Dementia Research.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 by Rabbi David Eligberg at The Hebrew Cemetery. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

Bunnie, I'm so sorry for your loss. I've just now (Aug 17th) seen this announcement, so I'm sorry I did not attend your husband's service. I hope you are well. It's been so long since you retired from Ft Eustis. I left at the end of 2011. Take care of yourself. My condolences to you and your family.
