Calvin LOWE Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Calvin Allen Lowe, 22, departed this life on Sunday, May 9, in York, Pa.
He was born Dec. 10, 1987, to Dr. Calvin and the Rev. Tanya Lowe. He was baptized at an early age at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Newport News, Va. Allen, as he was so fondly known, was always full of wit and very inquisitive. He spent his early childhood years in Hampton, Va., and Huntsville, Ala. From an early age, he enjoyed being with his family, playing with computers, and discussing politics.
Allen relocated to Bowie, Md., and graduated from Charles H. Flowers High School. There, he was active in the debate and chess clubs. He was a candidate for graduation from York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 15, 2010, where he was posthumously awarded the BA degree in Political Science. On campus, he was known as "Cal" and was well liked by his classmates and professors. He was active in the Political Science Department and a leader in the Young Republicans Club of YCP. His plans were to run for the Maryland House of Delegates, District 23A, in November 2010.
Allen was very active in all phases of politics. He was a very extraordinary young man. He loved a good challenging debate, especially on a political issue. He worked as an Intern for Maryland Congressman Albert Wynn and on the senatorial campaign of Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Gertrude Lowe and Rosetta Mosley.
He leaves to celebrate his life, his parents, Dr. Calvin and the Rev. Tanya Lowe of Newport News; sister, Maya Richardson (Henry) of Hampton; niece, Candun Richardson of Hampton; grandfather, Lowell Mosley of Lexington, Ky., and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life service for Allen will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 94 Lincoln Street, Hampton. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home and the family will be present to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Allen will lie in state at the church on Monday two hours prior to the service.
Arrangements are by O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Dr. Lowe and Family:

Please accept my condolences at the passing of your dear loved one. But we believe to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

It's interesting that I was journaling my dream from last night which was about Dr. Lowe whom I have not seen since I left Hampton University in 1992. So the next logical step was...google Dr. Lowe...and there I found the obituary of your dear one.

I remember when he was a little boy running around the Physics Department at those times his mother bought him in...he was a wonderful child.

I am sure you heart is broken. I weep with you.

Sincerely.

Calvin and Tanya,

I recall quite vividly my first encounter with Allen. I was moving into Sage court to become your neighbors and was a few months pregnant. Allen, at about 10 years old, came over and introduced himself and offered his assistance in "anyway". I was so impressed! I immediately knew he was a special young man. We all thought so much of him and know you have much to be proud of. Take comfort in your wonderful memories and in knowinig that God had a greater plan for Allen. We continue to keep you and Maya in our prayers.
