Charlie THARPE Obituary

HAMPTON - Charlie 'Rick' Richard Tharpe Jr., 59, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, July 21, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rick was born on Jan. 24, 1953, in Danville, Va., to Rachel and Charlie Tharpe (who preceded him in death.) When he was young, the family moved to the Peninsula where he lived the rest of his life. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1971. He enjoyed the beach, playing pool, and spending time with family and friends.
Rick is survived by a loving wife who took wonderful care of him, Debbie Tharpe. He was 'Pops' to Emily, Gloria, Arron, and Nik; 'Grandpa' to 12 wonderful grandchildren; brother to Jerry and Carolyn; and a host of other family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Asbury Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow at St. Luke's in Smithfield, Va.
Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Rick was a kind, giving man that loved his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is with Jesus now and feeling no more pain. Rest In Peace Rick you deserve it for all you've been through here on earth. You are going to be a magnificent guardian angel.

I grew from a small child to an eight year old across the street from Ricky and Jerry in Rosalee Gardens in Hampton. My cousins lived next door to us and they lived across the street and we played together every day. My sympathy to Jerry, Carolyn and the Tharpe family.

I knew Ricky well. We did some running together in High School. He also lived just down the road. I was shocked and saddened to hear of this. Know that your family is in our prayers. Praying for you Jerry! Losing your Dad and Brother so close together. God Bless!
