Clara Bartlett Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - On Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, the Lord sent one of His Angels on a special mission. The mission was to bring home for eternal rest our beloved, Clara Ann Bartlett. She slipped into a peaceful sleep in Riverside Regional Medical Center. Her life's journey began on Aug. 1, 1946, the daughter of the late Annie Mae and Joseph Banks Sr. Her home now is the mansion Christ has prepared for her.
She attended Bruton Heights School. At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined hands in fellowship with New Zion Baptist Church and she served her church as a member of the Senior Choir. She was employed for many years at the Pines Convalescent Center. She was also employed with the Head Start Program.
On Feb. 26, 1970, she was united in Holy Matrimony with the late Ernest P. Bartlett Sr. Unto this union, they were blessed with many years of happiness and their beloved children. Clara was a kind and giving person, who was deeply concerned about the welfare of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and we are so thankful for the many years she shared with us. She is now resting in the presence of her Creator and we, who remain, will always have many precious memories.
She was also preceded in death by a son, David Bartlett; two granddaughters, Nakayla Bartlett and Asia Cohen; and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish her blessed memories her children, Ernest P. Jr., Vanessa, Stanley (Denise), Yvonne Brown (William), Joyce Ashby (Anthony), Tracy Moore (Ronald Sr.), Joseph (Chante´) and Johnny (Dariece); her sisters, Cecelia Brown (Louis) and Emma Buggs (Gerald); her brothers, Joseph Banks Jr. (Linda) and Charles Banks (Patsy); her aunt, Hazel Jones; her uncle, Robert Russell; her 14 grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; her special nephews, Alex Hundley and Rodney Taylor; her special sister-in-law, Queen Hundley; her other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; her special friend, James "JJ" Jackson; her nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in New Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by noon Wednesday, at 429 Henderson Street. Mrs. Bartlett may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, at the funeral home. Professional services entrusted to the Staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Va. 757-229-3011. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Sincere condolences but more importantly encouragement and love to the Bartlett Family. The words family and community show thate there is strength in numbers. In your time of sorrow reflect upon the things your mother instilled in you, and don't be afraid to call on your Highland Park family. May God continue to bless you all. With friendly love and peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of bereavement. We know that Clara loved God and His Son Jesus from her praise testimonies. We know that she is in God's beautiful mansion. More precious, she'll be your angel looking down upon on her family from this day on.

Clara always greeted us with a smile and good conversation. We'll miss seeing her at New Zion Baptist Church. May God and memories of Clara comfort your hearts in days ahead.

Lovingly,

Pat, Lawrence, and Candice Jones
