I'm so sorry for our loss. I had the pleasure of knowing & working with Corn for the past eleven years, and knew him as a true friend and family man. I could always count on him to be there at the end of the day, no matter how late that was, to unwind with & vent to each other about the days latest challenges in work, family & life. I'm very sad that my friend has left us so soon, but I know that he is in heaven with our father and I know I will see him again someday. Until then may God bless Corn and comfort his beloved family and carry them through this time.

I worked with Cornelius on few projects and found him to be always friendly, professional and willing to compromise. He would always say "Hi, how you doing" if he passed you in the hallway. And he meant it. When he asked how you were doing, he was truly interested in how you were. My wife and I visited Cornelius while he was in the hospital; it was the first time she met him. She told me later how much she liked him and understood why I thought a lot of him. That's the way it was with Cornelius; you liked him the very first time you met him. I'll miss passing Cornelius in the hallways and seeing that kind and friendly face. He will be sorely missed.

Harris Family
My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. I have worked with Corn more than 30 years. I loved talking with him because he was such a kind person and always had a smile for you. He loved to talk about his family and how much they meant in his life. I am truly in shock and tear up when realizing I will not see my true friend again. This is devastating news to all who knew and loved him. God has received a true angel in Corn that will shine brightly and we have lost an angel here on earth. May God give your family the strength and comfort to carry you through your time of sorrow. God bless all of you.

Corn is my "crickets" buddy, a consumate professional and proud father/family man. For two years, my office was about 4 doors down from his. On normal workdays, all the employees leave by 4PM, except for Corn and I, and it's so quiet you can hear crickets. We either met in the hallway or in each other's office to catch up. I would often vent, and he would just listen. At the end of my vent I would say, "I don't know how you do it Corn, being the Element Chief of the largest and most demanding Element." You see, Corn was in charge of everything necessary for LAFB to function: water, fuel, HVAC and entomology...about 96 personnel in all. Ever a true professional, he would simply say "I have the best people, they always make things happen."
A man of few words you would think, but not so when our conversation changed to the welfare of our families. I could never get a word in, Corn was so proud of his boys and his family. He bragged that he had one son in college, and one up and coming. We talked about how as parents we work hard, so our kids can get a good education. I know he was very proud because during this part of the conversation a big smile would light up his face.
Telling this story makes me smile. I will forever remember my "crickets" buddy.

December 19, 2011

My most sincere condolences go out to the entire Harris Family. Corn was a wonderful man who cared about everyone and always took the time to talk, smile, or just say hi. I worked with him for 18 years at CE and he was always the utmost professional--ethical, loyal, hardworking and humble. I was usually in trouble with him for some contractual HVAC issue or another, but we always found solutions and worked things out. He was so proud of his family. In our extended CE Family he was like everyone's big brother...He cared about everybody and let you know it in no uncertain terms. I'll always cherish my memories of this wonderful man/husband/son/father. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

He always caught me crying and he would smile & lift me up kind of like my Dad, so in that short time I knew him I grew to love him as if he were my own Dad and I wIll miss HIM more than I can express with words. I know he is with Our Father in Heaven and He is holding him in His loving arms and he has peace now. He is still with me in my memories We never know our Fathers paln for us but we have to keep our faith in His long range plan. I am so sorry for you loss. hoping you will keep your faith in Jesus and take hold of His hand and walk with him as Our Cornelius is doing now. ALL MY LOVE TO YOU, YOUR OTHER SISTER SARAH

To the Harris family, I pray that GOD will continue to comfort you like only HE can. I first met Corn in CE 12 years ago, we jelled quickly as coworkers. Also as fathers of athletes, we had many “loving” always respectful conversations over sports, mostly the Grafton/ Tabb rivalry which continued until the last time we talked a few weeks ago. Corn would go out of his way to greet you anywhere he saw you and make time to listen as well. I fondly remember how much Corn would light up when he talked about Hanna and his two sons. Cherish the memories; your Husband, Father, Son, Brother and our Coworker,Boss and Friend will be greatly missed!

Hanna & Boys,
What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why Corn left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he LIVED! And that his life gave us memories too beautiful to forget! I will never forget his great smile that lit up a room, his wonderful leadership to many young men in the shop ... he will be missed dearly!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.
