Curtis Meeks Obituary

HAMPTON - Curtis Allen Meeks, Sr., 70, passed away at his home on December 17, 2017 surrounded by his two children and dogs, just as he had wanted. He was born in Robersonville, NC to the late Lester R. Meeks and Myrtle Rawls Meeks. He was a resident of Hampton, VA since 1970. He proudly served in the Army 173rd Airborne Brigade. He served two tours in Vietnam and earned a Bronze Star and the Combat Parachutist Badge. He graduated from Bertie County High School and received an Associate's Degree in Auto Mechanics at Martin Tech. Curt was known as an understanding Father, proud Grandfather, and loyal friend. He enjoyed fishing, growing vegetables and fixing things in his garage. He was the owner of C.A. Meeks Siding. Curt is survived by his son, Curtis A. Meeks, Jr. of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Shan Meeks Kirchheimer and son-in-law, Paul Kirchheimer of Clayton, NC; three grandchildren, Zachary Tisdale, Caleb Knight, and Kyle Kirchheimer, all of Clayton, NC; sister, Brenda Heath of New Bern, NC; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Harley and Trigger. In addition to his parents, Curt is also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Baker and Nicie Beatrice Meeks; and five brothers, William Earl Meeks, Lester Randolph Meeks, James Thomas Meeks, Joseph Llewellyn Meeks, and Robert "Kent" Meeks. The family will receive friends during a reception from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Curtis' life will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
