Dariene Deen DeRyder

Dariene Deen DeRyder, 84, peacefully passed away on August 6, 2023. She was born in Mississippi in 1939 and moved to Virginia as a child with her family. After graduating from Norview High School in 1957, Dariene attended Old Dominion University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. She then pursued her career as a Mathematician and Software Engineer at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Leonard Joseph "Buddy" DeRyder Jr, son Michael "Jeff" Jeffrey DeRyder, parents Harvard Franklyn "H.F." Deen and Gussie Lee Deen, and her brother Charles "Chuck" Deen.

She is survived by her daughters Teresa "Terri" DeRyder Hall, Kathleen "Kathi" Nannette DeRyder, grandsons Michael Phillip DeRyder, Derek Austin Whiteside and his wife Ashley Whiteside, David Benjamin "Ben" Topping Jr. and his wife Nicole Topping, and Brian Lee Hall and his fiancé McKenzie Zurenda, great granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth DeRyder, and great grandsons Easton Benjamin Topping and Graham Lewis Topping. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Cheryl Deen, nieces Michele Escobar and Jenifer Freeman and great nieces Brittany Bonsall, Amberly Freeman, and Ashlyn Freeman.

Dariene had many interests throughout her life including skiing, traveling, computers and technology, and sailing with her beloved husband Buddy. They enjoyed racing competitively and leisure cruising. They sailed as far as Maine to the Florida Keys and to the Caribbean. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Hampton Yacht Club, where she and Buddy were long time members. She worked in numerous roles including race committee, computers, website development, and score keeping for Southern Bay Race Week among many others.
