Donald Shelton Adams

Donald Shelton Adams, 85, entered into the presence of Jesus, his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 18, 2021. He was born May 12, 1936 in Newport News, Virginia to his parents, Rufus G. (Jimmie) and Hazel D. Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Donald Paul Adams. Donald worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 47 years in the Machinery Installation Department; retiring in 2002.

Donald was a member of Denbigh Baptist Church having served on the Deacon and Trustee Board. During the early years of Denbigh Baptist Christian School, he was the volunteer mechanic for their school buses.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Dee Adams; his daughters, Linda A. Hilton (Michael) and Joanne A. Blanchette (Garrett); three grandchildren, Kyle P. Adams, Raychel E. Watson (Blake), Jenna P. Blanchette; two great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Laura Adams; and an aunt, Genevieve E. Drewery.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Road, Newport News. A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Denbigh Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Richard Wilson and assisted by Associate Pastor Rev. Thor Williams. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Denbigh Baptist Church (Memorial Fund), 13010 Mitchell Point Road, Newport News, VA 23602; or the American Heart Association.
