Edith F. Davis

Edith Florine Davis, 95, passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Clifton Shivers, and her sister, Mabel Rose Holmes. Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Teresa Holmes; her great-nieces and great-nephew, Christine, Andrea and André Holmes; and her great-great-nephews, Nehemiah and Jaidyn Holmes. She is also survived by a large and wonderful group of friends who surrounded her with love, as well as a special neighbor, Fred Martin, who looked in on her every day. Although she did not have children of her own, she raised Marshall, Craig, Susan and Nancy Frank, who adored her and remained devoted throughout her life. Remains rest at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News where viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 21 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Florine brought unconditional love and endless light to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
