Emma Short Obituary
She was a faithful member of Messiah Baptist Church for many years. She was a dedicated usher and she served faithfully on the Missionary Board. She retired from While Away Day Care in Newport News, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Laura Meade; her husband of 62 years, Manzie Short; and a brother, William.
She is survived by two daughters, Harriette Alston (Willis) of Hampton and Rosetta Person (George) of Fayetteville, N.C.; one son, Thomas Short (Loretta) of Newport News, Va.; sisters, Gladys Lewis of Stockton, Calif., and Hazel Williams of Hampton, Va.; brother-in-law, Chester Short of Meredithville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Naomi Short of Albert, Va., and Harriette Robinson of Glen Burnie, Md.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St., Newport News, VA 23607, (757) 380-0251. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Baptist Church, 1152-24th St., Newport News, VA 23607. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are to assemble by 10 a.m. Saturday at 229 Prince George Drive, Hampton.

sorry about your loss. One good thing it is Heaven's gain. I did not know Mrs Emma Jane but as I talked
with you about her I feel as though I
knew her well. and through the trials,
tribulations and struggles that she endured along this earthly journey,

My prayers are with each one of you including everyone in your family. I pray that your strength be renewed and just know that your mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandma, great grandma & soul mate is resting away in peace and joy. The Heavens have just received another angel. Ms. Emma was a wonderful, warm, loving, funny person. I can still hear her laughing! As a former employee of While Away Private School, I have fond memories of her! May God give you comfort in your memories.
