Frank HACKNEY Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Frank Maston Hackney Jr. (CMSGT, U.S. Air Force, ret.), 75, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at home.
A native of Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Frank M. Sr., and Julia McDermott Hackney. He lived in Newport News for some 18 years after his military retirement. He had resided in Smithfield for some 8 months.
During his 23 year military service to our country, Frank toured Europe and also had tours of duty in Arkansas and Alabama with most of time spent at Langley AFB, Va. After military retirement, Frank was operations manager for Pembroke Construction for 21 years. He was a member of the Army/Navy Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a past member of the Hampton Lions Club. He was passionate about sports and was an avid fan.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Hill Hackney; two sons, Frank M Hackney III and his wife, Connie of Purcellville, Va., and Henry J. Hackney and wife, Katarina, of Smithfield; his sister, Margaret Warren of Newport News; his grandchildren, Michael Hackney (Micah) of Clarksville, Tenn., Taylor and Martin Hackney of Smithfield, Kimberly Nudi (Ryan) of Alaska, and Michael Meadows (Misty) of Texas; great-grandchildren, Claire, Madison, Molly, Juliana and Aidan; and nephew, Jim Warren of Newport News.
The family expresses special thanks to Riverside Hospice and special friend, Shirley Haskins for their care and support during Frank's illness.
A service celebrating Frank's life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the Main Chapel, Langley AFB, with spiritual coordinator, Joann Gordon, officiating. The family will receive friends in the home of son, Henry, in Smithfield following the service. Burial will be private, at a later date. Attendees for the service should use the Lasalle Gate to receive clearance for the service.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Riverside Hospice, 12420 Warwick Blvd, Suite 6E, Newport News, VA 23606 or to the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23430.
