Frank Steve Kawalkiewicz

POQUOSON, VA - Retired Lieutenant Colonel Frank Steve Kawalkiewicz, 90, passed away on February 2, 2013. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Straker Kawalkiewicz. He is survived by his son, Jay Brien Kawalkiewicz and his daughter in law, Sally Ryan Kawalkiewicz, of Poquoson, his granddaughter, Britni Nicole Kawalkiewicz, currently at ODU in Norfolk and his nieces, Gayle Baker of Gloucester and Leona Forbes of John's Island, SC. He is also survived by numerous friends, especially Sonny, Vinnie, Rita and family at his favorite Friday night restaurant, Luigi's. At age 19, Frank joined the Air Force, and served as a pilot for six years and then was in the reserves for twenty plus years. In 1947, he met and married his wife Marilyn, and they moved to the peninsula area to start his job at NACA/NASA. He started there as a model builder and later became a contract administrator and retired in 1984. Frank was a member of the Stoneybrook Elks Lodge, a safety officer of the TPA and a long time member of the NASA/Langley Scout golf group. He lived a long, healthy, happy life and always strove to make others smile. He will be sorely missed by many.
