My best friend, Lorna, and I used to save our lunch money all week and walk to Joe and Mimmas just to hang out and split an amazing sub and salad. Joe was the "Dick Clark" of our times,he was truly larger than life and he never seemed to age.Joe always made me and my family feel so welcome and appreciated every time we visited, which was quite often. My brother worked for Joe off and on for years, from his adolescence to adulthood. I want to thank Joe and his family for being so good to my brother and treating him like family all those years. Unfortunately, we lost Larry a few years ago before we lost Joe. Although Joe was in great physical pain, it did not stop him from attending my brother's service and paying his respects to him and our family. I feel like we just lost a local icon. God bless you Joe, and your family.I know you and Larry are making pizzas in Heaven and singing with the angels!

This family and restaurant are wonderful. They made each and every customer feel special- God Bless you all for a wonderful gentleman ! My family enjoyed wonderful meals there for years and over last few years my young adult daughter would make this her pit stop to get their homemade salad dressing to take home to DC. Gods mercy and grace to the Family!

My condolences to the Buffa family. Joe was one the nicest, kindhearted and hardest working person that I have ever met. I first met him when I was a kid. He and his family lived around the corner from us, in Hampton. He was always smiling, cracking jokes or just sharing his wisdom with us. My brother Mike Foster worked for him at Joe's & Mima's at both locations for many years. He loved working with Joe. Mike would always have some funny stories about things that happened while working with Joe. And Mike would come home and tell us. And even after many years had past, and I hadn't seen him for a while he was still smiling asking me how my family was doing. Joe will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace my dear friend. May God Rest your soul. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

As a teenager, Joe and Mimma's in Newport Square was a regular hang out for a bunch of us from the surrounding neighborhood. Joe didn't tolerate any grief out of us, but he was always there for us and did everything he could to make sure we didn't get into trouble. I'm very sorry to hear of your passing, thank you for your friendship and guidance all those years. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.....

I was sad to hear about the passing of Joe. Joe was a man of joy, peace, kindness, happiness, and love. Joe loved his customers and was really happy to see them when they visited. I started eating at Joe's in the 80's and the food was always delicious and the atmosphere was fun and Joe's welcome always made us feel like family when we were there. We lived closed to both restaurants and eat there weekly and even when we moved to New Kent, we still came back to get food until it closed, it was the best. When Joe got sick, he was still determined to go and live life, I seen him in the grocery store in his wheel chair and he was still the same person, happy and full of life. My husband and I will always remember his SMILE and the LOVE he showed to us. Sending prayers to this family in that GOD provides them all strength, comfort, and healing for the days ahead. God Bless you Joe, you are an angel in Heaven and can't wait to see you on the other side.
