Goldie Smith Obituary
Goldie was a native of Front Royal, VA, and lived in Yorktown, VA, for 31 years. She was a peninsula resident for most of her life. Goldie worked for NASA for 25 years, receiving an Exceptional Service Medal before retiring as a Senior Administrative Assistant. She attended Hampton Baptist Church and was a past Poquoson Women's Club member. Goldie enjoyed attending craft shows and created her own "Tote Bags by G" business making homemade tote bags.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Kathleen Capino.
She leaves behind her sons, Jeff Smith (Michelle) and Michael Smith from Newport News; brothers, Samuel Capino (Marty) from Yorktown, VA, and Richard Capino (Tara) from Columbia, MD; grandchildren, Lindsey Rami (Himay) from Newport News, VA, Alexis Tippett (Trevor) from Smithfield, VA, and Sydney Smith from Newport News, VA; and her beloved dog Rylee.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 5-6:00 p.m. at All Generations Church, 28 Harpersville Rd. Newport News, VA 23601. A memorial service will take place at 6:00 p.m. after the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, https://donate.cancer.org.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd. Newport News, Va 23601.

What an amazing lady Goldie was. I worked with her briefly at NASA many years ago, and she gave me guidance and help when I really needed it. Our working relationship was short, but I've never, ever forgotten her all these decades later. She was a bundle of laughter and kindness, all wrapped up in her petite little package. RIP sweet lady.

I am so sorry to hear of Goldie´s passing. I worked with her at NASA and even babysat her boys some evenings. Such a wonderful person. I saw her several years ago at Joann Fabrics. My condolences to her family.

My deepest condolences to Goldie´s family. Some of my favorite memories of NASA include time working with Goldie. She was a daily example to me of professionalism and kindness, always a team player when there was hard work to be done. She was a true friend and will be truly missed.
