Helen Compton Obituary

HAMPTON - Helen T. Compton, 79, died Sunday, June 6, 2004. She was a native of Newport News and lifelong peninsula resident. Mrs. Compton retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a time keeper in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Compton Sr. She is survived by her son, H.W. 'Woody' Compton Jr. and his wife, Sue Venable Compton, of Hampton; her grandson, Travis S. Compton and his wife, MaryEllen Woolfolk Compton, of Newport News; her great-granddaughter, Caitlin Parks Compton; her sister, Rita Edmiston; several nieces and nephews, and many good friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home by the Rev. Henry B. Sudduth. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 895 Middle Ground Blvd., Newport News, 23606.
