Helen LYONS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Helen R. Lyons of Newport News passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, in the company of her family and her church family.
Helen was born April 4, 1956, in Clarksville, Tenn., to the late Rev. Dorris L. and Nellie Mae Dunbar Reeves Sr.
She was a 1974 graduate of Clarksville High School, Tennessee, and 1978 alumna of Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tenn.
Helen was a faithful member of New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Newport News, even as her health declined. She was employed by the City of Newport News in the Waterworks Enterprise Division for over twenty-four years.
Besides being predeceased by her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her brother, her grandmother and her sister.
Left to cherish her memories are her beloved brother-in-law, Major (Ret.)
Anthony "Tony" L. Dixon Sr.; his loving children, whom Helen loved as if her own, Minister Anthony "TJ" L. Jr., Andre L., and Anna L., all of Georgia; two aunts, Mrs. Bobbie Lee Darden and Mrs. Lenora Allen, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; many other cousins and family members; her New Beech Grove Baptist Church Family; her fellow co-workers at Waterworks; and a host of other friends.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, in New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Newport News. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Lyons may also be viewed in the funeral home on Tuesday (tonight) from 5 to 7 p.m.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Helen Lyons. She was truly a joy to be around as we ministered in song with the Harmonious Voices for Christ community choir under the direction of Minister Thomas Dudley. We had so many fascinating times together as a choir. Her laugh, spiritual gifts/talents and persona as a whole will truly be missed, yet treasured in our memories.
