HENRY BERRY Obituary

Henry Kistler "Hank" Berry, III, died on Friday, December 27, 2019.

Hank lived most of his life in Newport News, VA and the last several years in Colorado. He was born on October 12, 1976 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News. He was the only child of Sylvia Howe Berry and Henry Kistler Berry Jr.

Hank attended Trinity Lutheran School and Hampton Roads Academy, class of 1995, where he was the youngest member on the golf team. He was also the HRA place kicker on the football team where they defeated Episcopal High School (which had an undefeated season) when Hank kicked a 38-yard field goal with only 8 seconds left on the clock winning the game for HRA. Hank continued his education at Virginia Tech University. Hank founded Berry Tree Service and had several inventions that he had patented.

Hank's greatest achievement of his life is his 9-year-old son Dillon, who he raised to be a loving and bright child. He is also survived by his mother, Sylvia Berry of Newport News; his father, Henry K. Berry Jr and his wife, Christina of Williamsburg and The Village of Golf, Florida; his uncle, John Howe and his wife, Patricia of Tucson, Arizona; cousins, Jake Howe of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and Julia Howe of Tempe, Arizona and Trevor Berry of Roanoke, Virginia.

A service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA. The Reverend William Warrick will conduct the service. As a student at HRA with him in my same class, he was always a good guy, albeit mischievous at times with me.

We were never friends in the proper sense, but I am saddened by his passing.

Whatever took him, he was way too young to meet it.

I pray for his family and anyone else who loved him.

This photo is on our fireplace mantle.
Those were such happy times, back when our kids were little.
Hanky Doodle was a joy to my parents - they loved him like a son.
Our thoughts and love go out to you.
I cannot imagine how you fell. And I can.

I was shocked to hear about Hank. He was one of a kind for sure. He was always upbeat, smiling ear to ear and never changed depending on the mood. Whether he was hiring a friend to caddy for him in a junior golf tourney (trying to impress the competition) or attempting to tackle someone enormously bigger than himself with all sorts of grunts. You can't make this stuff up. Great guy. We will miss you Hank. Not enough space on here for all the great stories about this friend.

I was so sad to read the obituary about this special young man. I have not seen Hank for probably ten years, but he was a person one will not forget. I did some accounting work for him with his "various enterprises". After a meeting with him he would leave me utterly frustrated but also utterly laughing. He was one of the most charming young men I have ever met. Blessings to you and your families. Again, he will be remembered fondly by a large number of people.

I'm remembering the beautiful little fella who loved tools, especially screwdrivers. He especially liked to climb around in Jeff's Nissan Z cars checking to see if he could tighten OR loosen anything that might be interesting. He was so curious . Of course being surrounded by EI engineers would have an impact on him. Heaven has an angel now who can help fix things. I pray for comfort and understanding for each of you.

A Friend

Hank was larger than life. He was an incredible promotional wizard, excellent at everything he did and an advocate to all about whatever he was into at the moment. No one could compare to his zeal for life, enthusiasm for the moment or could match his level of drive. He was a kind, generous and fun person to be around. He could do things that seemed impossible and make them look easy. He was a good friend and he will be missed. He could always help you see things the way they really were. Everything he did he did perfectly and to the very best of his ability.

Mrs. Berry: I am so sorry for your loss. I babysat for Dillon when he was 2 and he was such a little character. Sending prayers your way at this difficult time.
