I am just now hearing of Jim's passing. I have fond memories of a road trip in Florida to Key West in 1981-82 over New Years, with our mutual friend Kenny (Huggs) McShane. I'm sending best wishes to his family.

Jim was an old friend of mine, meeting in a dorm at Macalester College in 1978. He inspired in me a love of honest debate and critical thinking, and introduced me to a lot of great music. I had the pleasure to touch bases in May and was very surprised by his untimely passing.
