Dear Mr. and Mrs. Shook and family, I was out of town for the weekend, and came back to learn of Joel's passing. I went to Woodrow Wilson Elementary with Joel. We lived on 19th & Maple Ave. I have fond memories of summertimes in the neighborhood with all of us kids playing kickball, etc. I haven't seen Joel in years, but will always remember him, and your family. My heart goes out to you all. With love and prayers, Martina Schuszler Mays

Dear Anne, David and Robert,

We are so sorry to hear of your loss, our families have been friends from the 60's, if I remember right there was one time your family came to our house for a cook out, Mom served watermellon and your sons, Robert, Joel, David and I ran around chasing each other with the watermellon rinds add smearing them on each other, just to get washed off with a garden hose, what a mess but LOTS OF FUN for us kids!
I am very sorry we could not attend the services as my mother is getting ready for a heart operation.
We love you!

Joey was my brother's best friend and always made sure he called or came by to see my mom on her birthday or mother's day. You could always count on him. Growing up he was always around, he was like a brother to us three girls. Where ever Mike was there was Joey. We love and miss him. He and Mike are hanging out again now...
