Judith ELAM Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Judith Rae Elam, 80, died June 6, 2012 in Hampton, Va.
She was born in Chicago on Jan. 16, 1932, the eldest of two children of Maurice and Lois Elam. Judy obtained a B.A., in nursing, from Loyola University, while a member of the Navy Nurse Corps. Her career culminated with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis while completing her M.A., in psychiatric mental health, at the University of Massachusetts, she received a disability pension from the Navy and moved to Williamsburg, Va., in 1976. In Williamsburg, Judy was an active volunteer at the animal shelter and participated in an arthritic support group and its work.
She is survived by her sister, Susan O'Conner (Thomas) of New Brunswick, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. Also, we cannot forget her two cats, Nicki and Alfie, that Judy loved so much.
A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Heritage Commons, 236 Commons Way, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
Arrangements by Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

With deepest sympathy to the family during your time of sorrow. Psalms 46:1 says: God is for us a refuge and strength during this difficult time and may God grant you the comfort to endure.

I manage a doll store, and Judy loved dolls, so we got to know each other well. And we shared our love of cats. I remember her fondly.
