I met her through doing her yard with my dad at a young age. She always had a smile and offered us drinks. She had a positive attitude and words of encouragement. I am thankful for having the opportunity to have her in my life. She will always be with me as her kind words as well. May she rest in peace.

You were my idol and still are especially since I want to be an engineer, I am an African American young girl, and I am from Hampton, Virginia as you were. I know I didn't know you personally, even though felt as if i did. I just wanted to thank you for being such a nice, smart, beautiful, and INSPIRING woman who made a difference. I specificly want to thank you for causing me to follow my dream in becoming a fantastic Biomedical Engineer someday. -Sincerely 11 year old Morgan

Miss Chubby adopted us as family when we lived at 11 Gayle. Our close friendship remained when we moved out of state. We are so grateful to know her. We shall continue to think of her everyday as our daughter, Louisa "Kathryn" (named after Chubby) grows up. We were lucky to visit with Chubby in November, she held hands with Louisa as they walked down Gayle Street. Chubby wanted to make sure "Pero" (Joel) knew that girls could do everything boys can (he does!). Chubby sure proved that in her life - she took good care of herself and many others. She lived every day to the fullest and kept busy as much as she could in her garden. I hope we can all keep these precious memories alive. We love you Chubby!
