Kevin Bowens Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Kevin Dimonte' Bowens departed this life on Monday, June 29, 2009.
Kevin was the son of the late Rita Bowens Smith and Ronald Brown Sr.
Kevin was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Bowens.
Kevin leaves to cherish his loving memories two sons, Devin Buie and Daquan Betts of Newport News, Va.; grandfather, Clarence Pope of Newport News, Va.; brothers, Tracy L. Bowens (Robin), Ronald Brown Jr., Karl Slaughter, Stacey Slaughter, Kenneth Williams, Andre' Williams and Robert Williams of Newport News, Va.; sisters, Shelley Monroe-Baucom (Joseph) of Philadelphia, Pa., Joyce Phillips of Newport News, Va., Iantha Turner of New York City; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at the funeral home. A Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear that Kevin has passed away, we grew up together around 29th street and Oak Avenue. I will always remember that KB was a strong and cheerful person. The last time I saw him we chatted for a few minutes and he said Robert take care little did I know that would be the last time we would ever speak to each other. To the family my prayers are with you Kevin was alright!

To the Bowens, Brown & Pope Family,

It sadden my heart today and tears came to my eyes when I picked up the newspaper and saw that my nephew had gone to rest from his labor.

KB as his Uncle Peanut would called him, would always called me his aunt, and I can remember the last time I saw him; even though years and time had come between us he still would always show me love and respect.

I still remember the good ole days, when he just knew he had it going on, a fun and loving person.

To the family, my prayers and thoughts are with you at this needed time. Please remember; God never makes mistake. He promise never to leave you nor forsake you, a very present help in time of need.

Be Blessed, and Comforting for Each Other.
With great pleasure, we had the chance to spend Saturday, June 27, 2009 with Kevin. What a joy!
Kevin and us go back to 1st grade, along with a few more of our close classmates, and throughout the years, Kevin has always been the same cat that we've always known. Life takes us different routes, for different reasons, and seasons; but Kevin still remained Kevin, all day everyday. As he mooved away, we still were able to keep in contact.
Thank you Lord for allowing us to spend one of his last days with a true brother who enjoyed life to its fullest, and had his own personal relationship with Our Savior, Jesus Christ. He will certainly be missed by many, and forgotten by none.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of my brother Kevin.I barely knew him and for that I am truely sorry because it sounds as if I missed out on knowing a very nice fun loving person. I remember taking the train with my mother and my son when I was about 23 to meet with him and my dad in New Jersey we got along so well I can remember laughing and joking all night I only wish that we had kept in touch.I churish your memories as well as mine, to my brother may you rest in peace until we meet again love always.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Kevin. There was never a dull moment when Kevin was around. Just a few weeks ago I pulled my year books out and was reading what he had wrote to me. We were in 8th grade together at Carver Middle School 1978 in Ms. Clarkes class and we had so much fun in that class. I" sure he will be missed by many but know that he is in a better place, I pray that God will give you peace and that he will take your family though this difficult time.
