To The Smith Family: It saddens me deeply to hear about your loss. Gia just told me about Chip's unexpected death. Chip will always be remembered for his smile because I can't recall a time when he wasn't smiling, even when he was fussing with his brothers. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers of comfort and strength are being extended to you all.

To the Smith Family-I first met Lee at Thomas Eaton Jr. High. He was a nice person then and continued to be. Each time that I saw him, no matter the occassion, he was always the same, witty, warm, and sincere. I last saw him the week before he passed at a wedding reception. He walked straight up to me and indicated that he and other classmates were eagerly anticipating my appearance at the reunion the week before. On that particular day we ended up in the buffet line together and we immediately started conversing about the reunion, his family, and my family. He offered encouraging words regarding my son, who is approaching college next year. He was so happy and content with his success and the success of his career and Family. When God is in you, God will come out of you. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. He had that light on. I am so grateful to have been blessed with his presence that day, I missed the reunion, but there's a time and a season for everything. Needless to say, like others when I got the call I was in denial, I had my husband, (Gil) check and verify that it was Lee. After seeing his family at the Memorial Service and hearing those powerful words from his son, I feel that Lee has made a difference in a lot of lives, just being Lee. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kevin, Tina, Valerie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. While I did not know Chip very well, I do know how much family means to Kevin and all of the Smiths. Kevin talks quite a bit about his brother Chip, and speaks most fondly of all those times they spent together as boys growing up. I know Chip will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

As a member of Bethel Temple I have had the opportunity to be welcomed more than once, by Chip's beautiful smile as he participated in the usher ministry.
I am so sorry for your sudden loss. It is so difficult to be left behind with only memories, but one day soon we will all be together again and all we will know is joy. My heart goes out to you.
God is good... God is good.

I attended the 30 year reuion for Bethel High in the beginning of August. Chip's face was one of the first faces that I saw. And it was such a delight to behold.Things happen so fast that we MUST live EACH and every day as if it is our last. I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to attend the reunion because had I not I would have not been able to see him.May God be with ALL of his family and know that God is in control. Chip is smiling down on us. God Bless you all. Gail Lynch Taylor

I was blessed to have had the opportunity to met and work with Lee when he injured his elbow. I have been a therapist for 13 years and have worked with many people over that time and Lee truly stood out. He was always positive, hard working and enjoyable to be around. I always looked forward to our sessions. He was a very special man who left a smile on everyone that he came into contact with - I feel blessed that I got to be one of them.

Tina, Smitty and Smith Family,
When I received an email Sunday night expressing the loss of "Chip" I just knew they had the wrong person. I see Chip at the Briarfield Park tennis court all the time, and he is one of our classmates that never aged from high school. Know that you are in my prayers, and that my heart goes out to you in the days ahead.

To Tina and Family;
Chip was an usher on our team at Bethel Temple. Every time we would check to see if the doors were covered, Chip was always present. He never missed, I would hug him and thank him and tell him how faithful he was. I did not know Sunday before last would be the last time that I would see him smile and tell him this again. Our hearts go out to you. Remember earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Now more than ever we wait expectedly for that blessed hope that we who are in Christ all have. "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1Thessalonians 4:16-17

To the Family of Lee Smith:
I am so saddened to hear of your loss. I have known Lee for about eight years (via his job at Northrop Grumman) and to know him was to love him! Lee had nothing but kind words to say to anyone. Lee will definitely be missed for his big smile and personality.
My prayers are with you and your family. May God keep and strengthen you through this difficult time.
Lee was a treasure and will definitely be missed.

Words cannot begin to express the deep sadness I feel at knowing that I will not see "Chip" when I come home to visit. We all grew up together on Cornelius and "Chip" was always a kind spirit of impeccable integrity. He was always about doing the right thing and being a good human being. He was that and a lot more to all of us who knew and loved him. I truly am going to miss this fine brother and my heart will be heavy for awhile, but I know that God is in control and that what we don't understand, God does. "Chip" lived in Christ and has now received his reward. I am confident of that. To Tina, David, Erica, Mrs. Smith, Darryl, Kevin, Nicole, and the rest of the extended Smith family, I pray that the Lord will comfort you during this time of grief. Our thoughts and prayers are continually with you. God Bless you.

Tina & Children, Mrs. Smith, Darryl, Kevin, Nicole, family and friends: From the Tyler Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. We just saw Chip at Sherry's reception, after not having seen him in many, many years. Of course, he gave me that smile and a big hug. A sweet spirit that has been called home, but if we had been asked for permission, could we have let him go? No, but as many have said before, he is absent in the body, but present with the Lord. What joy! All of our lives are richer for having known Chip. Know that you have a community of family and friends that appreciated and respected your Man of God. Know that he touched many lives by the way he lived his life. May the peace that only God can give, comfort you during this difficult time. Peace and blessings, Patrese

I extend my heartfelt prayers to all of you. Chip and I attended Bethel and Virginia State together. Two years ago I was home visiting my family and Chip came by and we reminisced about our high school classmates and our enjoyable rides together back and forth to Petersburg. I am glad that I had an opportunity to tell him, that although we lived a long distance away from each other and did not get a chance to talk very often, that I would always cherish his friendship. Class of 77 has loss a nice classmate, but and even better friend!
God Bless you and continue to strengthen you!

To the Smith Family and Loved Ones:
We walk this earth day-by-day in our journey through life, never
knowing when God will send his angels here to "take us home." Well, God has called for Lee -- a kind , gentle man with a beautiful spirit.
And, as much as it hurts, those of us left behind must relinquish our
earthly grasp on our loved ones so that they can take their final journey to join our Father in Heaven. Although we may not understand "why," you can rest assured, the Good Lord has a plan for us all.
So, as your hearts weep in pain and sorrow over Lee's homegoing, please know that you can always find comfort in the Lord. He can heal all pain and hurt. Just surrender your heart to Him and you'll find solice in His loving embrace.
I was fortunate to have seen Lee during the Bethel High Class of 1977 30th Reunion. Otherwise, I hadn't seen Lee since graduation. And, when I saw him during the reunion activities, Lee greeted eveyone with that same warm smile I remember from 30 years ago.
I was truly saddened by the news of Lee's passing. I will keep you all in my prayers. May God Bless you, and assist you, through your time of grief.
With heart-felt sympathy,

Most often the way we live will be the way we will be remembered. I will remember Chip for his energetic, vivacious, yet serious-minded approach to life. You were often an example among us in our neighborhood through your resolve to live according to true principles of faith , responsibility, and love for family. Those are exemplified through your and Tina's fruit and seeds, your children and your deeds. And then the childhood memories and the laughs!! Tina, David and Erika, Mrs. Smith,Darryl, Kevin and Nicole God Bless you...when we know where our love ones are they are not lost, just transitioned.
