Linwood Lee Rodgers

1927 - 2018

Deacon Linwood Lee Rodgers transitioned home to be with his Heavenly Father July 24, 2018. Born in Portsmouth, VA on August 18 1927, he is preceded in death by his mother Curley Daniels Rodgers, two brothers Alvin and James, two daughters Linda Ann Rodgers and Sandra Lee Thorne. He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Dorothy B. Rodgers; his loving daughter, Gayle Rodgers; his granddaughter, Crystal C.L. Thorne and great granddaughter, Niya Leigh Simpson. Extended family includes Marlou Hunt, Rebecca Gaines, Jesus Lopez, the McCormicks, Junior Minns and many more that claimed him through the years. Deacon Rodgers served in the USAF, from July 4, 1949 for 21 years retiring as a Master Sergeant. He traveled from Sumter, S.C. to Osaka, Japan to Spokane, WA, to Izmir, Turkey and finally settled his family in Hampton, VA in 1966. He then worked 14 years at the Newport News Shipyard until he finally started enjoying the retired life, fishing, yard work, church and family time. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Hampton since 1966. His celebration of life will be Monday, July 30, 2018, 11 am at First Baptist Church, 229 N. King St., Hampton. Viewing for Deacon Rodgers will be 10 am at the church followed by interment at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens. Family is requesting donations to FBCH scholarship fund, in lieu of flowers.
