Loiva Carvalho Siochi

BLACKSBURG - Loiva Carvalho Siochi, 89, of Blacksburg, VA, died on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born in Caçapava do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on December 11, 1927, to the late Otavio Carvalho, and Leocadia Godinho Carvalho. She was preceded in death by her husband Andres, her son Roberto, her brothers Domacy Carvalho and Juraci Carvalho, and her sister Deony Carvalho da Silva. She is survived by: her daughter Lucia Siochi and son-in law Wayne Jones; her sons and daughters-in-law Antonio and Emilie, Fernando and Cristina, Alfredo and Ann, Octavio and Jacqueline; her sisters Maria Cándida Carvalho and Dionéia Carvalho; and her grandchildren and their spouses Leana Siochi and Drew Wright, Anmar and Melissa (Woo) Siochi, James Michael, Jeremiah, Katherine, Misty, Andrea, and Christian. Loiva also had dear friends who hosted her while she was a student. A familha Alves - Omar Alves, Orlando Alves, Ondina Alves, and Ofelia Alves dos Santos. She considered them family with a home away from home. "Esta formiguinha vai longe" - this little ant will go far, it was said of Loiva. She was studious, diligent and hardworking. In Brazil, she served as an extension agent, sharing her expertise in nutrition. She then met the love of her life, Andy, while completing her studies in Virginia. She loved Andy and her children unconditionally, and her life's work supported their success. She cared deeply for people, and never knew a stranger. She prayed for everyone. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and depth of gratitude. She once said: "The Lord God will repay you, because I can't". The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Blacksburg, VA. The Rev. Father John Asare will be the main celebrant. Committal and interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg, VA. Visitation will be immediately prior to the funeral service, from 10 am to 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A reception will follow the committal and interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity that supports the poor. This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.
